What is NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will become effective in July 2016. And also for those currently funded individuals will transition over to an individualized NDIS plan and packages of support slowly from that date. The NDIS is a revolutionary scheme that includes the individual having choice and control and helping them to get the most out of what they want in life. The NDIS offer funding for supports related to a person’s disability and are required for them to live an ordinary life and achieve their goals.
Especially, assistance from the NDIS is not means-tested and has no impact on income support such as the Disability Support Pension and Carer Allowance.
CAN I BE SUPPORTED BY STanD 4 yoU IF I HAVE NO FUNDING SUPPORT?
There are many ways to access activities and support services with our organization and we are happy to meet with you to discuss them. Although the majority of people who come to STAND 4 YOU have funding packages, others directly purchase supports and some access funded programs.
If you have no funding support we also can discuss with you and find out if you are available for NDIS plan and help you apply for it.
WHO CAN JOIN THE NDIS?
The NDIS supports a range of Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents under the age of 65.
To get help from the NDIS, you usually have to have an impairment or condition that is likely to be lifelong, which reduces your ability to carry out tasks independently.
The list of conditions covered is extensive, and in some cases, varies from person to person.

How to use my funding from ndis?
Participants can choose how to manage their funding consistent with their plan. Funding can be managed by:1. the individual.
2. a plan ‘nominee’3. a registered plan management provider or4. the National Disability Insurance Agency.
The type of management of the funding for supports that a participant chooses will vary depending on their circumstances. Different options can be chosen for different supports. Plans may have a combination of the options as shown.
can i use my own support worker?
- Yes, sure. In this case you do Self-managing budgets in your NDIS plan.
- Self-management means you are responsible for paying the invoices related to the supports you have received through your NDIS plan. You will then be reimbursed for these expenses, with the money deposited into your NDIS bank account. Self-managing your plan may also allow you to directly employ your own staff, or pay someone else to employ them on your behalf.
Self-managing support budgets in your plan means that you will be responsible for:
- choosing and arranging your own supports
- making payments to your chosen providers (on time)
- keeping records and receipts for services provided, claimed and paid
- reporting to the NDIA on the budgets spent on items in your NDIS plan.
